Ship Rock is a great place to climb in the warmer months. Spring marks the start of the season for me up there, and I was excited to spend the day climbing with Chad in this magical place. Chad has been climbing for many years. He has loads of experience climbing on the West Coast and Hawaii, so when he reached out about climbing in the North Carolina High Country, I was excited to say the least. Getting to show other climbers some of my favorite spots is one of the best parts of the job!

We started on Popcorn Shrimp (5.6) just to see how Chad would handle the new rock type. It was obvious he was comfortable at this grade, so we moved on to climb Edge of A Dream (5.7). One of the most classic and most photographed climbs at this grade in NC. The day was a cold one, and the wind was intense, so we decided to drop down to the main tier and climb Borrowed Time (5.9). A really fun one move wonder, but that one move might leave many folks struggling! Then we decided to end the day on a casual romp up the super classic two-pitch climb Boardwalk (5.8).

Meeting new faces and showing off the splendor of North Carolina climbing is always a joy. If you are in the Boone, NC area and looking to climb some rock, don’t hesitate to reach out and book a day with me!
